Poor man's medicine billed on rich men's plastic with proprietary intellectual property patents etc.

People have cancer, AIDS, leukemia, etc., etc., and they need their T-cell counts or whole white blood cell counts, I don't know what it is, but these medical science people keep reinventing the wheel. Either a patent ran out or some jealously guarded trade secret leaked. And no matter what it is, someone is bound to go to court in desperation to yank it all back behind the counter and charge even more money for it.

Harnessing gravity to create a low-cost microfluidic device for rapid cell analysis
A team of researchers at the George R. Brown School of Engineering and Computing at Rice University has developed an innovative artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled, low-cost device that will make flow cytometry—a technique used to analyze cells or particles in a fluid using a laser beam—affordable and accessible.

How much money is being made by profiteering on human suffering, sickness, disease and death? And how much care is being provided out of charity or compassion? Is alms necessarily in the form of money only? Is surgery or medication actually required? What about the "non-profit" hospitals with even more massively inflated budgets than the for-profit ones?
